| We have known Richard for about twenty years now I suppose, but Emma only a couple of years. Richard was one of the "gang" when our boys were in their teens at Orpington. I always get confused about his age but I think he comes between Brian and Tim so he is 34 now. He and Allan are the only ones we still see, obviously Allan because he is married to Fran. When we first moved here he was a frequent visitor with this girl or that girl. When he left school he went in to the Insurance business and did very well. Over the years there have been lapses of months between visits but he turns up on the doorstep out of the blue and it always seems as if he has never been away. He has always said we were a second family for him and at times could talk to us easier than he could to his own. He is mainly younger Brian's friend but is friendly with all the family. He and Em came to Tim and Lisa's wedding and to the evening of Kevin and Donna's. When he and Em got married earlier this year Brian, myself and young Brian, were invited to the whole wedding and the rest to the evening. They were unable to get there as it was along way for an evening, but we went up and stayed for two nights in a Travel Lodge. We had a lovely time and Emma looked lovely in Ivory and her Matron of Honour in Maroon( I think she said she got the idea when they picked the car) and I have never seen Richard so nervous. The weather was not good and she certainly needed her stole. We were a little embarassed when in his speech Richard thanked everyone who had travelled a long way for coming especially us who had been like second parents to him who had always been there for him. We have not seen their wedding photo's yet so will have to get in touch. |
