One Against All Interview
1)What is the name of your band?

One Against All

2) How did it get that name?

Mike (bass) and I (Kevin, vocals) were at this huge show in Erie, PA celebrating Mike Ski from Brother's Keeper's wedding featuring Earth Crisis, Buried Alive (i think), the Enkendels, and of course Brother's Keeper (our first show ever ended up being at the very same club).  We were tossing around different name ideas, and One Against All just sounded the best, and best described what we were about.  The fact that Earth Crisis had a song by the same name is completly coincidental.

3) How would you describe your music?

It's always had to describe your own bands sound, but I would say it's tough, heavy, hardcore.  Sometimes a little on the dark side, and sometimes a little on the positive side.  Some parts are faster and more traditional sounding, other are a little more metal sounding.  We try not to re-hash the same generic stuff that you've heard before.

4) Who is in the band and what do they play?

Mike: Bass

Don: Guitar

Shaun: Drums

Kevin: Vocals

5) What is the scene like in your community?

Well, I live in Syracuse, NY, but the band is based out of Cleveland, OH.  Syracuse scene seems to have a little more of a "I'm better than you" attitude than most scenes as far as I can tell, but has a pretty strong community.  Cleveland isn't half as community based.  I would say, from my experiance there, that the majority of kids at shows don't even recognise each other from one show to the next.  The scene there also seems a little more clueless to the world outside of Cleveland too.  Local Cleveland bands that the rest of the world has never heard of draw rediculess amounts of kids sometimes, while touring bands play for the crickets.  There's so much going on there musically though, shows of all kinds almost every night of the week.  Cleveland really does rock in that regard.

6) Who are the bands influences?

Just to name a few bands quickly, I would say bands like Hatebreed, Panterra, and Buried Alive influence us in some ways, but none too directly.  It's just some of the bands we like to listen to.

8) How many groupies does the band have?

There's 4 of us and we have 4 groupies total.  We're all pretty committed.

9) Have any members of the band had problems with heroin?

I used to have a problem with its existance, but now I'm like, "Fuck it, you wanna kill yourself with that shit, cool, leaves more air for me to breath and less morons on the streets."

10) How many pills do you take with your alcohol?

If I'm drinking any alcohol, it's prolly a night-time medicine that you wouldn't want or need to take any pills with.

11) What is your favorite drink?

Lately it's been Sprite.  I'm down with the caffine freeness of it, but if I'm in the mood for a caffinated beverage, one of those energy drinks (red bull and the like) are pretty crazy.

12) Do you smoke weed?

Are you a cop?

13) Do you skateboard?

I used to a lot, but I fucked my knee up pretty bad performing.  Mike and I built a half in highschool, and he and Don recently built one at Don's house, so they still skate some, even though we're all gettin' old.

14) What do you think of skating these days?

I think it's pretty rad, I'd like to see even more skaters going to shows and representing though.  Seems there aren't as many kids that are skaters any more, just kids that skate, if you get my point, and that kinda sucks.  Tony Hawk's Pro Skater may have something to do with this phenomenon, but who cares... those games kick ass.

15) How many tours have you been on?

I've "been on" a couple tours, but none with One Against All.  We have been talking about doing a week sometime this year, but I think until we have a label backing us, its sort of pointless.  The scene is already too watered down with bands that no one cares about trying to make it big, and I don't want us to be considered one of those.

16) Have you played with any big acts?

We've played with Poison the Well a few times, they aren't a "big act" by most standards, but for a "hardcore" band, they are pretty damn big.

17) Will you ever sell out?

I don't think we'd do anything musiclly that we wouldn't want to, but we'd sign to a big lable in a heart beat!  Most of own homes or are buying homes and getting married, or already are.  Hardcore indy labels don't pay the morgage, nor do they put food on the table.

18) How old are you?

I turn 24 tomorrow, Mike and Don already are, and Shaun is still 23.

19) Any advice on how to pick up on chicks?

Join a band... it worked for Mike (haha).

20) Do you like Kid Rock?

Fuck no!  Dude's a cheesy moron, but if I we're him, I'd be laughing all the way to the bank.

21) Do you have any questions you壇 like to ask yourself?

What are you still doing up?

22) Are there any up and coming bands you壇 like to mention?

I just started jamming with this band here in Syracuse, we don't have a name yet, but it's members of Santa Sangre (me, so I guess member (singular)), One Against All (just me again), and Darker Day Tomorrow.  It's definitly a good, heavy, rockin' band.  Other newer bands that I like are the Funeral, the Promise, Nemisis, Found Dead Hanging, and Ed Gein... all from right here in Syracuse, NY.  This scenes got some VERY strong new bands... check 'em out before they all break up next year!  Finally, Seven Stiches are my boys from Erie, PA.  Check them out or their debut EP if you get the chance!

23) Have you ever been to Cheyenne, WY?

No, but I played a show in Jasper Hole, and met a kid that had a bb stuck in the back of his head that gave him headaches.

24) Have you ever heard of a band called FELT?

nope

25) How many people usually attend your shows?

We've been pretty fortunate for a newer band... almost all of our shows have had attendances in the hundreds, our last show there were 660 paying kids there!  We've played to 20 kids too.

26) What did you think of the magazine?

Great for people with short attention spans like me, and I'd say probably the rest of the band as well.

27) What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

That's a good question... unfortunatly, I can't think of a good answer.  Maybe something with me in it.

28) Have you ever been in any fights?

Nothing special.

29) Have you shows ever caused a riot?

A band that 3/4ths of us were in called Self Infliction did once when we played a drag speed raceway.

30) Have any kids been killed at your shows? What is the closest that has come
to happening?

no

31) Famous Last Words? How would you recommend people get a
hold of you?

Thanks for the interview.  One Against All is always looking for shows, so get ahold of us if you'd like us to play in your town!
