Alan Greenspan Says Certainty of Fixed-Rate Mortgages May Not Be Worth Cost ( From THE WALLS STREET JOURNAL Feb. 23, 2004) Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan questioned whether Americans homeowners clearly like the certainty of fixed mortgage payments,with a typical fixed-rate mortgages rather than adjustable mortgage during the past decade even though higher interest rates that increase their payment. Paying thousands of dollars a year for a fixed rate benefit. Mr. Greenspan states said homeowner may pay 0.5 to 1.2 percentage points more then they other wise would if they held adjustable mortgage rather than a fixed mortgage. |
