WORLD STUDIES I

Please follow directions carefully and be sure your work is neat. There will be no extra credit if it is not accurate and neat. Typing is ALWAYS appreciated!

CURRENT EVENT

1. Read an article about a section of the world we have studied this year.
2. Write a summary of what the article says IN YOUR OWN WORDS
3. DRAW a map of the country or region being discussed
4. Tell 2 facts WE HAVE LEARNED about this place
5. Include a copy of this article. (Articles can be found on the Internet. One site which will lead you to good news sources is
mjpurdy.com/searchsites. Open media oriented sites and choose one of the news sources. Make sure your bibliography properly represents the electronic source of your article

CROSSWORD PUZZLE

Using graph paper or a computer program, make a cross world puzzle with the vocabulary words, people, places, events and key ideas from the current chapter. You must have 20 words in your puzzle, plus an answer key. Make sure your puzzle words are spelled correctly!!! www.puzzlemaker.com/ ( use only crisscross version.) NO WORD SEARCHES!!!

READ AN ARTICLE OR SHORT STORY

*Read a 3 - 5 page article or story about another country or time period. (Or ask me about articles I have)
*Write 3 main ideas from the story and give several facts that support each main idea. (Suggested main ideas: religion, government, customs and culture, jobs, family relationships, history of the place.)
*Include a copy of the article and a proper bibliographic entry of the article.

INTERVIEW

*Interview someone from another country
*Make a list of 15 questions to ask - cover the major topics: government, family life, education, religion, jobs, geography & weather, dating customs, differences with the US.
*Take notes as you interview them. Summarize at the end what things you learned from this interview. If you did not learn at least 5 new things, ask more questions!!!
*Hand in your questions and the written answers

FOR DOUBLE EXTRA CREDIT write your interview up into a mini biography of them and their life. Use good essay format, margins, paragraphs, good grammar & spelling, complete sentences.

PROJECT (worth up to 3 points on your final grade for the term!) This is required for accelerated, optional for all others. See me for a project sheet, or read it on-line at my web site at plymouthschools.com.

INTERNET ACTIVITY - Take a topic (person, place, religion, type of architecture, other idea or concept)out of the current chapter. Search on the web for some information about the topic that is not covered in your book. Find an interesting site. (NOT BORING, NOT ALL WORDS, NOT AN ENCYCLOPEDIA ARTICLE!!!) Print at least 3 pages of that site and list 5 facts that you learned from it that were not in your book. I will delete all facts found in the current chapter about it, and you will not get credit if you do not have 5, so check you book carefully!!

Follow directions at the end of each chapter for the internet activity suggested there - see pg 19 in Connections to Today for Chapter 1.

POSTER summarizing main information for the chapter in visual forms, with captions. Pictures, graphs, maps, timelines or other items

BOOK REPORT - read a biography of a famous person from my book list, or another that I have approved. Write it up according to the directions on the book report page. This is worth two points on your final grade for the term. You can only do one per term.
