UPDATE--Pics with new hood and fender--CLICK HERE
These pictures were taken Tues March 28, the day after the wrecking

These are the current pictures of it's condition. Yes I know it's still not perfect--but that wasn't my goal. I just wanted to get it driveable. I plan on replacing the hood and fender this spring once it warms up.

This happened the morning of Monday March 27, 2000 {a day I don't care to think back upon}. It was considered totalled, but I love the old thing and it's been so incredibly reliable and maintence free, I didn't have the heart to let it go to some bone yard to sit and rot and get picked over by scavengers, so I towed it home {myself} and it sat in storage until mid July. In the meantime I moved to a new residence so I towed it to the new place and begun my ameture work. I took out the most mangled parts, such as the A/C condenser and some smaller frame-work pieces. I then stuck a new radiator in and two headlights. I then took the hood and fender off and with two pairs of pliers, a hammer, screwdriver, my knees, feet, hands, and my front yard, I tried to bend them back as much to the original shape as possible {I'm not going for flawless here} and I must say they are not half bad. It's still quite noticable, but not as bad as it was. The hood still sticks up a little because when it was smashed it pulled the hood latch up with it, and I haven't been able to get it back down yet, but I'm workin' on it. And now...the moment...I get in, turn the key, and just as always, she fires right up on the first try. This accident happened at 253,xxx miles and remained there until mid July when I started driving it again, and it has ran like new to it's current odometer reading of ~308,000 {11/24/02}. It still does not burn or leak a drop of oil, gets close to 30 mpg, compression ranges from 199-210 psi across all 4 (that is very good!), and to this day has never broken down or left anyone stranded. That's Honda engineering for ya! I will get the current pictures posted as soon as I can. Oh yeah, and just in case you're wondering--NO it was not my fault (I wasn't even the one that wrecked it)--a little encounter with a '99 Ford Windstar.
Check out my Colorado vacation pics--you can see my little beast climbing mountains and such :) hehe
