1930 Trades

1
Boston Pilgrims send Highie Critz, 2nd round pick
St. Louis Bruisers send Bill Cissell

2

Cuyahoga Falls Collusion
send Jesse Haines
Boston Pilgrims send Rick Ferrell

3

St. Louis Bruisers
send Bill Sherdel
Philadelphia Athletics send Lance Richbourg

This will be Sherdel's third team in four years. He has a career 34-30 record with a very respectable 4.23 ERA. Unfortunately he is coming off the worst season of his career after struggling to a 8-8 mark and a 5.19 ERA in his lone season with the Bruisers.

Richbourg has been the Athletics starting rightfielder the past two seasons after an impressive 1927 in a part-time role. For his career he is a .323/.378/.439 hitter and has been a good complementary player for the Athletics/Bandits franchise. His best season was 1928 when he hit .366/.421/.462

New York Giants
send Glenn Wright, Sheriff Blake, 1st and 4th round pick
Boston Red Sox send Tommy Bridges, Roy Mahaffey

Interesting deal. The Red Sox become the favourites in the Central division by picking up two pieces they really needed. The Giants gain Tommy Bridges in exchange for two pieces they didn't need. If both teams make the playoffs I call it a win-win deal. If, however, the Giants just miss the playoffs and the Red Sox make the playoffs the Red Sox will have pulled a major coup. Likewise if the Red Sox miss the playoffs and the Giants make the playoffs then the Red Sox traded away a massively valuable piece for nothing and the Giants scored a major coup.

Cuyahoga Falls Collusion
send Sammy Byrd, 5th round pick
Boston Red Sox send Ed Marshall, 3rd round pick
No front page deal, that's for sure. The Collusion pick up a platoon partner for Jimmie Reese and the Red Sox acquire some legs for Babe Ruth in the OF. Byrd should remain productive as a role player for the next few seasons (he hit .372/.432/.518 in just over 200 plate appearances in 1929) but was expendable by the Collusion after drafting Dave Harris in the draft. In turn, the Collusion receive some future consideration that will probably amount to another redundant pick in 31 resulting in another prosaic trade nobody cares about.
