Puppets was written lyrics first. It started as a two-part
poem (both parts written while in math class), and then was joined together.
A month later, in February 2001, five days after learning guitar, and totally
inspired by Hole, I wanted to write my first song. At that time the only
songs I knew how to play were Wonderwall (Oasis), and Doll Parts (Hole). I
knew random power cords, and so I decided to mash everything I basically knew
into the song. The chorus was inspired by a swim coach of mine who use to
always say "feed the fire". Both in good terms and bad terms. The
"Give it to an addict" part came from the fact that I have an
easily addictive personality, which is why I live by Victor Davis motto of
"Go big or go home!". I guess that can also be positive and
negative. |
