What you will find here are some links to some of my photography
examples. All the links here are to pages that contain some of the
photograpy that I have taken. All photography is Copyright 2001 of
John D. Marks.
These are some of the pictures I have taken of my grandson Trevor.
One of my favorite photographic subjects have been flowers.
My camera is a 35mm Minolta XG-7. I usually use an 80-350 zoom lens
that has a micro-focus feature to take them. Micro-focus is a feature
of the lens that allows you to take a full framed shot from a short distance
away of objects that can be very small. If you wanted to take a picture
of a dime and have it appear as a full framed shot, you would use a lens
like this. The trickiest part in taking something as small as flowers
with a lens like this is getting the depth of field right.
Depth of field can be explained by looking at shots such as those taken
at sporting events. Usually the cameras used there will show a subject
like an athlete in full focus. The focus usually only includes whatever
might be close to the athlete. But if you see the spectators in the
background behind the athlete, they are usually out of focus and look blurred.
This is because of depth of field. Everything within the depth of
field is in focus. Everything outside of the depth of field is out
of focus. When taking close up shots of flowers, there is a very
short depth of field. This is why some flowers that are part of a
small bouquet will show as slightly blurred in the background. The
main part of the flowers in the photo will show up in focus. Sometimes
I make mistakes in the shots because the lighting or rushing through a
shot will cause me to be unable to get the right portions of the flower(s)
in focus. Sometimes when these shots get messed up like this, the
results don't look that bad so it looks like you meant to shoot the shot
just the way it comes out. I wish I was that good, but it does help
to have good equipment.
Part of what I do these days with my photographs is to have them loaded
onto a CD-Rom at the time they are developed. Besides embracing this
technology, it allows me to share my photos with family and friends by
being able to send them through the internet. It also allows me to
do a fairly decent job of doing my own reprints on my computer. My
goal is to eventually acquire a digital camera so that I can continue with
my love of photograpy.
Here is a link to another page of flowers. There are quite a few of them on the page so it could take a bit to load.
Here is a link to a third page of flowers. There are quite a few of them on this page also so it will also take a bit to load.
Another favorite topic of my photography is
birds
and other wildlife. I don't take as many pictures of these as I do flowers but thought you might enjoy some of my efforts.
Additionally, during my travels I always have my camera along and have a number of nice
scenery
shots. This link will give you a sample of those.
