SIGNS OF AN OFFENSE.............
OHIO STATE 35 - INDIANA 6
THIS IS HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE.......as Ohio State came into the game a 21 point favorite. It all came together. The offense was stellar as the running game and passing game totaled over 544 yards and scored 35 points. The defense smothered Indiana, holding them to 6 points.
OSU CAN RUN THE BALL..........without Maurice Clarret and by now everyone knows about Lydell Ross and his 3 touchdowns and 167 yards on the ground but.......what has been overlooked is the passing game as the OSU quarterbacks combined for over 387 yards passing with two touchdowns.
NEXT GAME.......on the road against an unimpressive Penn State Team on November 1st.
NOTES
1. OFFENSIVE NOTES.....backup tailbacks Ira Gilford and Maurice Hall ran 9 times for 35 yards for an unimpressive 3.9 yards per carry. Lydell Ross carried the ball 23 times for 167 yards, over 7 yards per carry. It appears Lydell is ready to take over down the stretch.
2. DEFENSIVE NOTES.........and you thought the Ohio State running game was bad......Indiana rushed 31 times for NEGATIVE 9 yards against Ohio State. Quarterback Matt Lovechio ran for -57 yards to skew those stats.
3. "THE OTHER #4", Santonio Holmes, came off the bench to as a replacement for the injured Drew Carter and caught 6 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. If he keeps that up he might eventually get his own number, as it is, he shares it with "the # ", Chris Gamble.
