THE STREAK IS OVER.............
WISCONSIN 17 - OHIO STATE 10
THE LAW OF AVERAGES..........finally caught up to Ohio State. When you can't run the ball, then your defense and kicking game and special teams have little margin for error.....Ohio State's special team's made a critical error in the second half when Chris Gamble fumbled a punt and Wisconsin recovered the ball in OSU territory and later kicked a field goal. Chris Gamble was also the key player in the defensive breakdown when he was beaten on a down and out fake by Wisconsin wide receiver Lee Evans and was burnt for a 79 yard touchdown with only 5 minutes left in the game.
NO RUNNING GAME......finally hurt the Buckeyes. Ohio State is last in the Big Ten in rushing and it showed as QB Craig Krenzel was the leading rusher for OSU with a grand total of 30 yards. OSU's only TD of the night came in the 4th quarter when they decided to abandon the run and passed, passed, passed as Krenzel passed on 7 straight plays to lead them to a touchdown.
NEXT GAME.......October 18th at home against Iowa. Kickoff time is 3:30 PM.
NOTES
1. OFFENSIVE NOTES.....Wisconsin had more first downs (13-12), more total yards 299-271, and more yards rushing (141-69) then Ohio State. Ohio State was also "3rd down deficient" as they only converted 3 out of 12 3rd downs. Wisconsin, on the other hand, was very efficient as they converted 7 of 14 3rd downs.
2. THE STREAK IS OVER.........for another Ohio team. The University of Dayton also lost Sunday, ending the Nation's longest Divsion III winning streak at 14 straight.
