HAPPY FANS.............
OHIO STATE 20 - NORTHWESTERN 0
JUST WIN..........Stop me if you have read this before. Ohio State did not have not ground game on offense, and their starting quarterback was still out with a bad elbow, so what was the result? Just another victory as OSU defeated Northwestern by a score of 20-0. OSU led 10-0 at Halftime, and THEN outscored Northwestern 10-0 in the second half for the final margin.
KICKING GAME LOOKED GOOD......as Mike Nugent was 2 for 2 on field goals and his kickoffs were deep into the left side of the endzone. Punter B.J. Sanders also was solid with 5 punts for a 44 yard average.
STRONG DEFENSE..........contributed to the win. The shut out was the first for an OSU team under the Jim Tressel era and the first shut out for the team since 1998.
NEXT GAME.......after a bye next week, is October 11th at Wisconsin.
NOTES
1. OFFENSIVE NOTES.....Ohio State had more first downs than Northwestern (16-11), and more passing yards (186-64), and more rushing yards (125-121), and did not have a turnover.
2. WIN STREAK EXTENDED.....The Win gives OSU 19 straight victory's - the longest active streak in the Nation. The OSU record for most consecutive wins is 22 set by the 1967-1969 team. Number 23 for this team would be (will be?) November 1st at Penn State.
3. NOT A CLOSE WIN..........is news as this was only the 9th time in the last 19 games that OSU won by 8 or more points.
