CLICK HERE FOR USA-TODAY TOP 25 FOOTBALL POLL NO OVERTIME THIS WEEK...... OHIO STATE 24 - BOWLING GREEN 17 DEJA VU.....ALL OVER AGAIN.....Once again Ohio State established a 24-7 lead well into the fourth quarter....and found themselves desperately hanging on to protect their lead...and...unlike last week...the buckeyes were able to hold off Bowling Green in regulation as Bowling Green threw an incomplete pass into the end zone on their next to last play of the game and then Safety Will Allen intercepted a pass on the last play of the game to preserve the win. RUNNING GAME RETURNS......It was a challenge. Although starting Quarterback Craig Krenzel missed the game because of strained elbow, and even with star tailback Maurice Clarett suspended for the season, Ohio State was still able to rush for over 205 yards on the ground as tailback Maurice Hall ran for 107 yards and Lydell Ross ran for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Replacement quarterback Scott McMullen was an acceptable 10 - 16 for 118 yards and a touchdown, but his -9 yards rushing speaks to his lack of mobility. DEFINING MOMENTS....for the running game. The offense had two "defining moments" in a couple of clutch moments that will not bode well for future games if the pattern continues........ NEXT GAME.......is at home against Northwestern on September 27th. NOTES 1. OFFENSIVE NOTES.....Coming into this season, every starter on offense from last years championship team returned. The result? Prior to this game, Ohio State's offense ranked 100th out of 117 school's in total offense. 2. MORE OFFENSIVE NOTES.....Ohio State had turned the ball over 9 times in their 3 wins for an average of 3 turnovers per game. So how many turnovers did we have this game......you guessed it......3 more turnovers. Not good.............. 3. EVEN MORE OFFENSIVE NOTES.........At one point in the game, Ohio State had TWO tailbacks with over 100 yards rushing......Maurice Hall and Lydell Ross.. Maurice finished with 107 yards, but Lydell Ross lost 3 yards on his next to last carry and fumbled his last carry and finished with 94 yards rushing....... 4. FINAL OFFENSIVE NOTES......Statistically speaking, Ohio State once again was outperformed by their opponent....Bowling Green had more first downs (21-18), more total yards (366 - 323) 5. THIRD DOWN WOES.......Ohio State was a miserable 3 for 12 on 3rd downs for this game. 6. PENALTY FLAGS WERE OUR FRIEND......finally Ohio State showed some discipline on the field as they were only flagged for 3 penalty's for a total of 15 yards........... 7. WIN STREAK EXTENDED.....The Win gives OSU 18 straight victory's - the longest active streak in the Nation. The OSU record for most consecutive wins is 22 set by the 1967-1969 team. Number 23 for this team would be (will be?) November 1st at Penn State. 8. CLOSE WINS ARE NOTHING NEW.....this was the 10th win in the last 18 games for OSU that was decided by 7 points or less...all WINS for Ohio State. JDLOSU ![]() Links to other sites on the Web
