BRING ON MICHIGAN!!!!!.....  OHIO STATE 16 - PURDUE 13 OHIO STATE DID NOT DISSAPPOINT THE CROWD ON SENIOR DAY. The stadium was juiced from the time the band marched out onto the field, Ohio State brought out Archie Griffin as an honorary captain in the pregame toss, first place in the Big Ten was on the line, and a BCS bowl bid was on the line. So how did OSU respond? Can you say "overtime"? Coach Tressel can as Ohio State won 16-13 in overtime to improve it's OVERTIME record to 4-0 in the Tressel ERA. It was another typical Coach Tressel victory on saturday as the defense and the special teams kept Ohio State in the game and led them to another improbable victory as the team won in spite of the inept offense that didn't score an offensive touchdown for the 3rd time this year. But a win is a win is a win and this win was the 15th straight for Ohio State at home.... IT WASN'T PRETTY.......as Mike Nugent had a potential game winning 41 yard field goal blocked as time expired and Ohio State's offense struggled the whole game, but, the defense recovered a fumble in the end zone for Ohio State's only touchdown and they held Purdue to one touchdown the whole game. NEXT GAME.......is on the road at that "School up north" on November 22nd. Kickoff time is 12:00 and it's on ABC TV. It's the last home game of the year. NOTES 1. OFFENSIVE NOTES.... a. Purdue got 24 first downs to Ohio State's 15 and outgained Ohio State in total yardage 355 to 351. b. Lydell Ross only ran for 79 yards as his streak of 100 yard games was stopped at two. c. Nugent's three field goals in four attempts give him 48 career field goals, one behind Tim Williams for second place in OSU history. d. Talk about balance on offense. Ohio State has rushed for 13 TD's this season and passed for 14 TD's. 2. DEFENSIVE NOTES......... a. Ohio State punter B.J. Sanders was a busy man as he punted 10 times. b. Purdue rushed for 106 yards, more than twice the 45 OSU's defense was allowing per game. c. Ohio State was flagged for penalty's 9 times for 68 yards. d. Ohio State leads the nation in rushing defense, allowing an average of 50.55 yards per game. 3. TID/BITs........... a. Punter B.J. Sander may have made the play of the season when he alertly tackled the Purdue player who picked up the blocked field goal kick at the end of regulartion; Purdue could have returned the blocked kick for a TD if B.J. had not hustled to the sideline to make the play. b. Coach Tressel is 2-0 lifetime against Michigan. c. Chris Gamble didn't play on one offensive play for Ohio State; and, after dropping a sure interception on a pass from Purdue in overtime, maybe we know why he no longer plays on offense! d. Ohio State expects to move into the #2 Spot in the BCS poll with the win. e. An Ohio State win would give the Buckeyes their first outright Big Ten Title since 1984 and their 16th since joining the conference in 1913. Currently, Ohio State and Michigan each have a league high 15 outright titles. f. Ohio State is 2-1 on the road this season. Michigan is 6-0 at home this years. g. Ohio State and Michigan both have 5 game winning streaks going into this game. h. Ohio State is seeking its third consecutive win over Michigan, and it's second straight in Ann Arbor. The Buckeyes have not won three in a row from the Wolverines since winning four straight between 1959 and 1962. i. This year's 26 member senior class concluded its career in Ohio Stadium with a four year record of 24-4. j. This is game 100 between Michigan and Ohio State. The series is deadlocked at 25-25-2 since 1951 and Ohio State is 11-14-1 in Ann Arbor during that 52 year period. k. The Ohio State vs Michigan rivalry was first played in 1897 and has been continuous since 1918. Michigan has a 56-37-6 lead in all games and a 29-17-4 edge in games played at Ann Arbor.
