National News
In San Antonio, Texas, Sherry McLaughlin of Iowa was installed as the National President of the American Legion Auxiliary. In her Installation Address she stated, "America's young people are a love of mine and I ask you to involve them in every phase of the Auxiliary's programs."
National President McLaughlin announced a new award would be presented to the "Department Junior Member of the Year." They are to be chosen at the Department level from nominations from Unit Junior Auxiliary groups. Junior winners from each Department will be awarded an all expense paid trip to the National Junior Meeting to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina next August.
Any Unit group can nominate a Junior member for this award. In the 7th District, we have many excellent and qualified leaders that would be great candidates. Be sure to enter this contest. More information can be obtained from your Department Junior Activities Chairman.
Good luck in all of your projects and programs this year!!!

President's Cornor
I am the Flag of the United States of America
I am the flag of the United States of America.
My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the worlds tallest buildings.
I stand watch in Americas halls of justice.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
Look up and see me.
I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I stand for freedom.
I am confident.
I am arrogant.
I am proud.
When I am flown with my fellow banners,
my head is a little higher,
my colors a little truer.
I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
I am saluted.
I am loved.
I am revered.
I have fought in every war
for more than 200 years.
I was flown at Valley Forge,
Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appomattox.
I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France,
in the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome
and the Beaches of Normandy.
The people of Korea, Vietnam and Kuwait
know me as a banner of freedom.
When I am flown at half-mast to honor my countryman,
when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent
at the grave of their fallen son or daughter,
or lie in the arms of a child or spouse who will have to go on
without the one who gave the ultimate sacrifice for others
I am the symbol of the greatest country in the world.
I was there.
I led the troops.
I was dirty, battle worn and tired
but my soldiers cheered me
and I was proud.
I have been burned, torn and trampled on
in the streets of countries I have helped set free.
It does nor hurt me,
for I am Invincible.
I have slipped the bonds of the Earth
and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space
from my vantage point on the moon.
I have borne witness to America's finest hours,
but I know my finest hours is yet to come.
I have been torn in strips
and used as bandages
for my wounded comrades
on the battlefield.
I am Old Glory.
Long may I wave.
