This posting I would like to talk about another foray into digital applications for use in the classroom.  In the lesson, Dr. Z had mentioned Windows Movie Maker and voice overs so I thought it would be interesting to try.  I don't have video capture capabilities (yet), so I started experimenting on a digital clip I took with my digital camera.  There are so many features it's hard to figure where to start, but once you do, it really keeps you (and hopefully students) engaged.  I did two things.  The first voice over was like a "Discovery Channel" narration of a sea turtle.  You can add effects and utilize a wireless mouse to control playback at appropriate spots where live instruction would occur.  The other thing I played with was a video quiz, where still pictures were inserted and the voice over would be a quiz question ("In the picture, what is the species of the organism shown").  This would add another dimension to assesment not only to break up any monotony, but to add some differentiated instruction to the class for the visual learners.  The students can even use this to present a project for class or the science fair.  I can see this application will be another great addition to my class.
