These two guys are Keisuke and Tetsuya. Keisuke is Miaka's brother (the one on the left).. After he saw his sister enter the book. He started reading about her adventures. As he read the book, the same things were happening to Miaka. He did research and found out horrifying facts about the previous owners of the book. There was a murder that happened decades ago, and Miaka was really involved with something that was serious, something that nobody could understand. Tetsuya (who is Keisuke's best friend) reads along with Keisuke. They both get really excited when they meet their hero after the actions spills out of the book. And their wishes come true when their names appear in the book as characters of a larger than life story. |

Tomite and Hikitsu are actually ghosts. Tomite is the one on the right. They are two of the Genbou Seven. Their job was to protect the Shinzaho of Genbou. After a priestess summons her guardian, something she wears becomes a Shinzaho. Genbou was summoned about 90 years ago, so all of their warriors are gone except for these two. After a failed summon attempt, Miaka has to journey to the other two kingdoms to attain the two Shinazahos to summon Suzaku Even without seven warriors or a scroll, she can still do the summoning spell with the two Shinzahos.. Tomite's and Hikitsu's powers are controling ice. Genbou's element is ice. They put up a pretty good fight; but in the end, they are relieved that their job is done. |

These two are Subaru and Tokaki. They are Byakko warriors. They are very old, but Subaru's power is to bring youth. They become young again to help Miaka get the Shinzaho of Byakko before Yui. Tokaki was Tamahome's master when he was younger. Subaru is Tokaki's wife. There's also another Byakko that's still alive. His name is Tatara. He's the keeper of the Shinzaho. He stays at the Byakko Shrine to guard it.. He keeps his youth inside those walls. Tatara was deeply in love with their priestess Suzino. She tried wishing to remain with Tatara but it didn't work so they were separated. Kutou invades and imprisons him to get the Shinzaho. To make matters worse, Miaka also gets caught, loses her voice, confronts Yui, and can not even tell her how she feels. |

After the series was completed, the manga (comics) kept on going. The anime closely followed the story (episodes 1-52). But then the animators got together and created two other short serieses. The first is three episodes long and the other is six. They are very good, but were much, too much, rushed. They crammed like 10 (more or less) issues of manga in one episode. One of the episodes in fact would just sum up all of the events, instead of showing an awesome fight scene that I was waiting for. I still wish that a new series would be done to continue the story of the Mysterious Play. It's funny that there was no movie that was released after the series. Usually in Japan after a successful series, a movie is released at the big screen! Well anyway, above all else, this is the best anime series that's out there. There are slow parts. Maybe some fairy tale love stories. Or even storylines that could've went some where's else. But just like a soap oprea or a good movie, it really kept me guessing until the end. This one is one of the best. Currently they're releasing Ceres in the states. Yu Watase's second project (done after Fushigi Yugi). Ceres is more mature in the way of a girl's situation is very very complicated as when her family is out to kill her. It's worth watching. |
