James Edward Dwyer
Who
Is Jim Dwyer?
Jimmy
D (He hated this nickname) was a large Irishman.
He stood at least 6’ 6” in height and tipped the scales on any given
day around 265 lbs.
What
was amazing about his weight was, I never knew anyone that could be that big from
diet consisting of: a plain Big Mac, Aurellio’s Cheese Pizzas, and Saltine
crackers chased by room temperature 7-Up.
Jim
was 100% South Side Irish through and through; from his choice in music, (U2 and
the Chieftains) to his dress, (Claddagh Rings, rosary’s and “Mic’ hats, as
we used to call them) to the fact that he believed the Sunday before St.
Patrick’s Day should be a National Holiday.
Unfortunately,
Jim did have a few faults. Some
would say he had
very little taste in when it came to college football and baseball.
He backed the N.D. Fighting Irish and Chicago White Sox to the extreme and
would almost come to blows during heated arguments.
I can not tell you how many times we were put in the infamous “Mic
headlock”. Of course nothing ever happened but a bunch of laughs during
this routine procedure.
This
was the typical fun loving Jim. He
loved to have a good time with his friends.
The only thing he loved more then hanging out with his friends, was his
family and working with children. He
particularly loved working with under privileged kids.
For as big of a man as he was, his heart was even bigger.
So who is Jim Dwyer? He was a fine Irishman, a fixture on my driveway, a softball coach, and he was and will always be a best friend.
You are truly missed.
