My Dad In The CCC's
Civilian Conservation Corps, Company or Unit 1692, Perkinstown, Wisconsin
Welcome to our Perkinstown Camp Pictures!
My father, Cliff Glawe, was in the CCC's around 1935. This generally known fact was recalled when my sister sent me some pictures from an old family album. On the back of one picture was written Camp No. 1692; another had a painted sign in it Perkinstown General Store. These two facts, plus an inquiry made by my sister at the NACCA (National Association of Civilian Conservation Service Alumni), determined that the camp, or unit, in question was one organized in the Sixth Army Corps Area which comprises of Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin. Company 1692 had occupied Camp F-16 near Perkinstown, Wisconsin on June 22, 1933. We thank Bob Robeson of NACCA for that bit of information.
Dad was born Clifford C. Glawe in Winnebago, Illinois on March 9, 1912, son of Clarence and Mary (Cochran) Glawe. In 1935, when most of these pictures were taken, he would have been about 22 years old. Obviously, much comradery and fellowship existed between members of unit 1692 as evidenced in both the pictures and the fact that dad wrote on back of pictures the names of his buddies. Even though many scenes shown herein are of camp facilities, it is the names of individuals which seem important. Identified persons include: H. Beck, E. Belcitis, Marty Biancoe, F. Buckley, Lieutenant Danielson, R. Folk, Cliff Glawe, F. Griffin, Evar Johnson, H. Johnson, W. King, d. Logan, M. Macius, P. Malani, J. Mandero, Otto Rosanay, P. Roth, R. Shuman, and G. Wicks (Wilks?). The name of F. Griffin was a surprise as he turned out to be a favorite uncle, Francis "Bud" Griffin, who married my dad's sister.
