HELP LIST

For the past three years we have been using a help list to ask for funds for the following year and also to seek volunteers for various fundraisers and educational projects.  Enclosed is the list for 2003 plus an envelope to return the form to us (your stamp is appreciated).  The totals for the three previous years are as follows:

2000: $1300.20

2001: $1056.80

2002: $1216.20

Thank you for you past help and we hope to hear from you in 2003!

LOOKING BACK AT 2002…

With your help, our branch has mailed out 126 lupus information packets.  We also have given 96 copies of the latest books on lupus to lupus patients, their families, and other interested people.  (This was possible through the kindness of people we contacted requesting help with this endeavor.)

Some of the educational events were:  The Arthritis Foundation Workshop in Peoria, the Health Fair at Snyder Village in Metamora, the Health Fair sponsored by The Peoria Department of Aging at Expo Gardens, and the Bradley University Volunteer Fair in Peoria.  Hundreds of lupus materials were handed out at these events.  A special thank you to all the volunteers who helped with this important work!

Also our appreciation goes to Heather Fitzanko of Pekin for speaking to the nursing students of Illinois Central College.  Her willingness to do this these past several years has helped educate many people in the medical field.  Thanks, Heather!

We also received donations from the following ways…

PERSONAL CONTRIBUTIONS … BLESSING TAXES … MEMORIALS … HONORARIUMS … BUSINESSES    … BOOKS … CARDS … TOWELS … KNIVES … BEARS … CAPS/HATS … TAG DAYS(Bartonville and Pekin) … FAZOLI’S(Galesburg and Peoria) … FUNDRAISERS … KAY’S PLACE IN PEKIN: FISH FRY & CAP AUCTION

Support group meetings will begin again on March 3, 2003, 6:30pm to 8pm at Soderstrom Dermatology Center Annex, 4909 No. Glen Park Place, Peoria.  Call lupus phone 309-353-4357 for more information.

Live in the Galesburg area?  Call Mrs. Terry Clark, representative, 309-343-4678 for information about their “get togethers.”

The information on our second lupus memorial quilt is being finalized and will go to the embroiderers this spring.  Once we do this, we will notify the people involved.

The Sunshine Committee sent over 100 cards this past year.  Know of anyone needing a card?  Contact the lupus office at 309-353-4357.

2003 Goals

  1. To place the latest materials on MINORITIES & LUPUS in the Peoria Area African-American Churches and other places with minorities.
  2. To provide envelopes with our local name and address to funeral homes in our area
  3. To recruit some central Illinois people to walk in the 2003 “Life Without Lupus” 5K Run & Walk in Chicago in October
  4. To hold our 6th Annual Bartonville Tag Day in May (Contact Rep. Cathy at 309-697-4929 if you can help)
  5. To hold our 13th Annual Pekin Tag Day in October

Behind our successful and important work are many great volunteers … and rather than leave off anyone’s name, we wish to thank each and every person who helped us during the year 2002.  You are special to us and we could NOT provide the help we give to lupus patients and their families in this area without you!

Thank you,

The Lupus Foundation Board

Our condolences to board members Hazel Dion on the loss of her mother, Anna Jones, in December and to Terry Clark on the loss of her father, Dr. Lester Ernstein, also in December
