| TOOL were formed in Hollywood, California, USA, 1990 by Adam, Maynard, Paul & Danny. Signing to Zoo records, Tool showcased their immense power & talent on the mini-album 'Opiate'. Creating a buzz with high profile supports to the likes of Henry Rollins, Tool then hammered out a full album's worth of real intensity on 'Undertow'. The record found huge success, (as did the singles 'prison sex' & 'sober'), & sold well over a million copies in the US. Three years later after extensive touring, they resurfaced in dramatic fashion with 'Aenima', the record bolting straight to number 2 suprising many who had yet to aquire a taste for Tool. After the tour, Tool were quiet, Maynard got on board 'A Perfect Circle' (with Billy Howerdel, Josh Freese, Paz & Troy) & toured with the amazingly successful debut 'Mer de Noms', but finally it seems a new album is dawning upon us, I hope we are all ready, we've all been waiting long enough! Oh God. Thank-you for saving the rock scene as we know it, true pioneers, Tool have done it again. With one mighty swoop, they have once again changed the face of rock, and shit on anything you heard since Billy Howerdels APC. There were some pretty shit-hot records during the nineties, and with Kyuss gone, Tool were given more room, and have now brought rock into the millenium, proving to all of little faith that good music still exists in guitar-based bands and we can be proud to be part of a scene that honours this acheivement as soon as it's come to light. Even the art-work, carefully designed by Adam, is a new level (& probably the new blueprint for many bands to imitate) it's original, innovative, inspiring and the complete package leaves you in awe for well, I'll tell you when I recover. The fact that Tool have done it again, is oustounding, the fact that they did this consciously, is f**king amazing. Ultimate respect to them. Tool are appearing at the brixton academy 11th/12th June, (& I will be the most excited person there on both days!) also @ ozzfest & various other festivals/venues world-wide this year. TALK ABOUT AWARENESS! COMMUNICATION! EVOLUTION! LOVE! I witnessed the awesome experience that was Tool @ Brixton 11&12th June. It was unearthly. Maynard said few words that night, but what he said that I remember was; 'There is a war going on, & the creative people are losing'. He also mentioned how nice it was to have so many fans now, after ten years. The gig I experienced was not a 'good gig', not even a 'really good gig', it was two nights of long-drawn out emotion, & though the come down was rough, the memory was brilliant, & half of Danny stick sits in my room to remind me. |
