| GIG-REVIEWS |
| Been a while since I did any reviews-so here's how my 'gigs' have been going so far-I'm finding that the more nervous I feel on the night, the ruder I appear to my audience, and the less I give a shit about who's watching, the more they enjoy it. Weird. So it's going ok I guess, it's been awhile since i played live and I miss the band bit a lot. Acoustic is good, but it's not the all. Am working on new material for new band stuff. Aswell as the covers band (me, Fin,Ciz,Mrs) that should be out and gigging very soon. We will be covering stuff from Hole-Fleetwood Mac-Kittie-Babes in Toyland-PJ Harvey-A Perfect Circle-Joan Jett..... & more. SEPTEMBER - PJHARVEY REVIEW - CLICK HERE Ok i can see u been waiting.. SEPTEMBER - conTRast @ the cartoon once again a truly excellent turnout -and this time alternative crew was out in force, here you all came you 'random' people who had heard about us, maybe through a band maybe a friend maybe a gig-listing in Kerrang! or a regular cartoon goer- Big repsect to people who came on the basis of a flyer & brief meetings(!) & all the people who came on their own-(there were a few of u). Rehab first up, we picked them for our gig-the rhythm section/singer our fans/friends of ours, rehab played a solid first gig. Missaligned followed with a highly entertaining & emotional set, as it was Jake -the drummers last gig. Eventually (after I rinsed a couple of tunes in the dj booth-pjharvey/babes in toyalnd/ kyuss&tool-my selection man-yes!) conTRast came on & the set-list was : dRone, foRget-me-not, lesson learnt, need to heal, she said,(TGM) git-go,(KW) maybe, swichy, new song, grim, (time for one more?) nutshell . Overall a cool performance. WE made many BRILLIANT & COLOURFUL conTRasting mistakes (which only we notice a lot) but (you didnt notice) played hard & well & enjoyed ourselves -(ciz was until she could no longer hear a guitar or vocals on her monitor) High-lights (for me) was git-go, storming cover of Katastrophe wife, great fun, & grim my solo was cool!- low-point (for me) messing up the maybe solo once again (somehow?!), & going deaf towards the end of the gig. ! Could not hear a thing! Did my best to chat to you all...if you need more u know how to reach us.... |
AUGUST - SEE here - for stone temple pilots review JULY ctd.. conTRast @ the cartoon firstly excellent turn-out for both bands, especially as it was a Monday. I guess people are more willing to come out now big brothers finished! Ok, so our setlist was undecided really til we were up there, it went: drone/forget-me-not/lesson learnt/need to heal/she said(the god machine)/maybe/new song/grim/CIZS DRUM SOLO!/jennifers body(hole)/dress(pj harvey) I have to say that Cizs solo was the highlight of our set with massive applause & we are all prouD! Before the gig however I did feel like crap, (& a crap), & felt I might pass out as soon as i got in stage, but with a little help from the fans blowing on me, half the lights switched off that r usually on, & a couple of kick ass tunes over the p.a just before we went on, I felt better, & performed fine (apart from a little cockup in maybe! where did that solo go? nobody knows..). Low point of the gig-when Ciz tried to speak but her mic wasn't working! & stuff- Fins hair is now deep blue & it looks brilliant! Lively crowd with a few too many with 5 second attention spans. big up the conTRast crew every time -the conTRast family you know who u r. If you missed this one. oh well, you missed it, see you next time when you've stopped being lazy!!! ta to:dad for roadie-ing /Dal/Deep/Cath/Y/Dan/Mick/Anj/Celia/the two blokes that came up to us after & starting chatting excitedly!/oh shit my memory's so crap/i can't even remember what i learned at school!/oh yeh,fin & cizs people from work/i would never invite the people i work with !/ Noel/Laurie (i dunno how to spell that) errrr.. nah memory loss in full session today. anyway cheers folks.B-real. JULY KATASTROPHE WIFE @ Barfly-the monarch So this gig being advertised in metro that day, blatantly people turned up, & they did not all know & care about Kats musical history, & riot grrl & all that. the support band didn't even register for a long time as me & Fin anticipated coming to hear music we'd never heard before. Not that that's quite what it was like, it's been a long time coming, but as it goes, Kat seems to have picked up exactly where she left off. The babes sound is still in essence in the structure & guitar playing, & it was odd to see Kat playing with two guys, instead of two girls, but no matter. THe threesome rocked hard together, the bass player often watching Kat as much as the rest of us, & her husband head down, pounding his kit. Standing within inches of a great rock legend is a cool feeling, when they play a classic tune like 'gone' it's hard not to feel the moment, whooping your appreciation, & then hopefully, like I, get a warm smile of appreciation back from the main grrrl herself. Hope my pictures came out well. We'll be coming to see you again anyway.. JUNE ctd... TOOL @ Brixton Academy - see Tool page JUNE conTRast @ the half-moon Returning to this venue, conTRast had to bear in mind that what these people saw last time we played there was, well, crap really, (apart from drone & the first verse of forget-me-not) we wouldnt hopefully have any trouble showing how much better we are. And we didn't. We played a half-hour set, Lesson learnt, Forget-me-not, Drone, Need To Heal, She said, New song/Grim, Maybe. Dissapointingly, due to 'the football' (why anyone arranges their lives around a round piece of leather is beyond me) & some weird concept called A-levels, turn out was very low, & between us, the mighty Missaligned and 'PERT', we pulled in just under 40 people. Of course big thanks to those that did come especially all the proper conTRast posse that turn up rain or shine! ( ;)Yvonne, CAtherine, Dan) and Sophie who expertly filmed this & the last gig for her theatre design degree show project, SCott (always big up them people that turn up on their own man, proper) and Jim finally made it, (tho certain others didn't) Anyway, we did what we do, & did it well. Missaligned followed us, played a pounding set, in which we were forced to come up to the front & show our support by head thrashing to 'crush' & just generally showing ourselves up by having fun. We have now done four gigs with Missaligned so it's almost a mini-tour, & we are all big fans of them now! As for 'Pert', well, why don't you think about that name for a minute? Then try Fins description 'A.O.R' (adult-orientated-rock) (Not bitchin jus not our cup of t!) |
