BABES....Formed Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA 1986 by Kat, Michelle and Lori. The band signed to twintone records & released thier awesome debut, launching them to the status of original riot grrrls. After Michelle Leon's departure, the band signed to Warner brothers, & unleashed the mighty 'Fontanelle' (produced by Lee Ronaldo of Sonic Youth with front cover art-work by top american artist, Cindy Sherman). The record made the Uk top 30 & was adored by the english fans.
After Painkillers release, Kat turned up in her new husbands band 'lubricated goat' while moonlighting with 'crunt'.
      Babes returned in 1995, (Lori by now had set up her own independent label), but disappointed a lot of their more hardcore following with their covers of 'all by myself' & 'we are family'.
       Personally, I have to say, I think the album is brilliant, (apart from the afore mentioned covers) really listenable, but nowhere near middle of the road. (Babes aren't capable of it!)
     Since then Katasrophes wife (Kats new band) appeared on the scene, specifically at reading last year, they've yet to release anything. Babes appeared in the UK in February this year (2001), with new bass player Jesse Farmer (who apparantly had been listening to babes since she was 14!) They came to promote the release of their 'lived devil rivled' triple live album, & also because (especially after the gig I'm sure..) that the music of riot grrls is something truley adored by the british music fans.

(& Fin tells me you can actually buy an official t-shirt that says 'Babes in toyland -dunno who they are but they're apparantly really popular in England!'!!)
