| Alice in chains were formed 1987 as glamsters 'Diamond Lie' and then 'Fuck', by song-writers Layne and Jerry, who soon changed the name to Alice..when Sean and Mike (starr) joined. THey signed to colombia in 1989, debuting thr following year with the 'we die young' ep. After some success in 1991, (1 grammy nomination & top 50 album) they followed up with the beautiful Sap ep, and the mighty album 'Dirt', which made the top ten. Layne spent some time with another band between 'jar of flies' and their self-titled album. Named 'Mad season' the one-off album, 'Above' involved Mike McCready (guitar-pearl jam) and Barret Martin (drums-screaming trees). By now it was clear that Layne was having problems with his heroin habit, but Jerry says they all went through it, Layne is still battling to this day. Respect to the man who's first words on their follow-up album 'alice..' "in the darkest hole, you'd be well advised not to plan my funeral 'fore the body dies". The album stormed in, but there was no real tours, they played MTV unplugged, and Jerry released his solo album 'Boggy Depot'. Alice in chains have been in and out of my cd player and turntable for seven years now. Til death do us part man! |
