I made a trip to the Bethel Cemetery in Carter County, Kentucky and verified the grave site of Doctor James Franklin Burchett Sr, 1876 -1937 and his father Benjamin Franklin Burchett III 1847-1920. Martha Ellen Burchett (Bond) 1852-1934 is buried next to her husband Benjamin. There is no wife buried next to Doctor Burchett. My information shows Doctor Burchett was married at least three times. My GGrandmother, Nettie Lee Burchett (Corns) was Doctor Burchett's third wife and I don't think he ever re-married after her. She is buried in Valdosta, Georgia. Doctor Burchett had a son named James Franklin Burchett Jr. who is buried next to his mother Nettie Lee. James Jr.'s sister Emma is buried just a few feet away from James and Nettie under the name Ewart. Emma, I now suspect, was a half sister to James Jr, for Doctor Burchett was married to a woman named Emma before he married Nettie Lee. |

| It turns out that Company D, 40 was with the Union forces in the Civil War. Kentucky was a divided state and had many people in the Confederate and the Union armys. Kentucky fell to the north very quickly in the begining of the war and the Union held it through out the rest of the conflict. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
