Day Fifteen
More of the BIG HOLE
Colorado River
Grand Canyon on RT64
Day 15, Saturday, July 2nd
Another beautiful day today.  We started out at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and stopped at several view points and took some more fabulous pictures.  From there we headed for Page, AZ via Routes 64 and 89.  I knew it was going to be a long ride when I saw the sign for the North Rim 267 miles from the South Rim.  We headed down the canyon and into the desert again.  Yes it was hot.  Not as bad as it was a couple of days ago but hot nonetheless.  Truthfully I didnt really care about the heat as I was busy watching the sun reflecting all the beautiful colors in my most fabulous new engagement ring.  Oh yeah back to the road.  We traveled through an Indian Reservation as evidenced by the many homemade signs alerting us to stop and shop at roadside stands for Indian (Native American to be a little more p.c.) jewelry, pottery and rugs.  My favorite signs:
INDIANS AHEAD NICE INDIANS REALLY, REALLY GOOD STUFF STOP HERE.  We did stop at one stand and visit with the nice Indians for a minute but we chose to spend some more time at the historic Trading Post in Cameron.  We made our first purchase of items for the home we will have together and had them shipped because nothing else will fit on the bikes.  Then on we went through the painted desert.  Wow was that gorgeous.  It was like riding through many of the areas we had seen from the rim of the Grand Canyon.  The colors we just amazing.  Pinks and purples, tans and oranges all in perfect harmony on the walls of the canyons looking as if they had all been cut identically by the same knife.  As our gas tanks neared empty, we took a turn for Page and as we began another climb we passed through an amazing red rock formation.  The road was too narrow for us to stop and take a picture but were going to work on that tomorrow.  We managed to find the last hotel room in town and that just happened to be right beside a lovely steakhouse.  The hotel is at the top of the town and we chose to dine on the patio.  The view was absolutely beautiful and the sun had just set.  We enjoyed our steaks while a warm wind whipped around us.  Off to bed now as we have an early morning date with a Navajo tour guide to go check out Antelope Canyon.
