I
started working in data processing in 1977 as a machine language programmer for
Monroe Calculators. PCs were unheard of
at that time. In 1978, I answered a
blind ad looking for programmers to work on large IBM mainframes and began my
programming career in earnest. I was
fortunate to work for a company that had its home office in Atlanta and had
great growth potential. Now, 22 years
later, it is time to retire and move on to new and different challenges.

I moved to Atlanta in ’49, that is 1949, but my kids think
it was 1849. I can still see in my
mind’s eye the electric trolley cars in West End Atlanta and the dirt
roads. Atlanta was just beginning to
boom. I attended Atlanta Public
Schools, I. N. Ragsdale, Arkwright, Brown High and Southwest High. After high school I attended West Georgia
College and graduated with a degree in Political Science, which I never
used. The US Army was next, but that is
a story all to itself.
