| June 23 Washington, DC I'm temping today at AirBus in Herndon. Being at home for a couple of weeks before moving to Boston, I figured I could either work or not and I might as well make money. AirBus (which I keep typing "Airbust") is a French company that makes big airplanes shaped like giant school buses. Totally gimmicky, and not at all aerodynamic. When people find out that I've just gotten married they all say "Congratulations!", but it's like, "For what? It's not as though I get to see my husband." I'm moving up to Boston next weekend. I visited a few weeks ago and found a fabulous apartment right near school. It has two bedrooms and it's in a nice building, and it's in the basement, which means that we won't have to move the piano that Mom is generously giving to us up any stairs! Graham has a job teaching English to Italian summer students in Loughborough, England. Hopefully he will be here in time to start grad school in the fall. Mom and Dad just got back from a week visiting the Walters in Texas, durnig which time I had to drive their manual transmission Saab. I made a sign that said "LEARNER" and taped it into the back window and no one honked at me (in Fairfax County!). That said, I didn't do too badly. I only cut the engine a few times and I was pretty good at shifting (which is really the whole thing, anyway). Also, because of my sign, no one tailgated or pulled up too close at red lights! I've decided (when I get a car) to always have a "LEARNER" sign in the window as it makes driving a more pleasant experience. |
