| May 12, Washington, DC I'm still working at the place that does AIDS information stuff for USAID. It's not particularly interesting, as I continue to be on file/payroll duty. Most of the people here are nice, though the notable exceptions are a bit of a pain. Graham is at home writing music. He's almost finished his opera(etta?) Espionage, about how evil the Chinese are. The answer? Quite. You should check it out on his website. He's also updated his Geocities site so there's a picture of us together on the front page. We're renting the (English?) basement from the Weirichs, which is where I lived before moving to China, though we haven't had much chance to hang out with them with the whirlwind of social events that has surrounded Graham's arrival. Graham is enjoying having his days free to write music and use their grand piano, which is apparently easier than doing it all in one's head. I got new contacts a couple of weeks ago, but I'm still not sure if they're quite right. I had a check-up on Tuesday and switched to ones that were less dry and also a new prescription, I think, but I'm still not sure this one is right. The signs in the Metro are still a bit blurry. My left eye seems fine, but I'm not sure about the right one. I keep holding my hand in front of one eye and then the other. And doctors never do a very good job of explaining the situation or what they're doing. I remember when I had my thumb surgery, I didn't know that there was a pin in my hand until after the cast was taken off and I finally asked for the specifics of what they had done. |

| March 15, Washington, DC At work, at the place that does AIDS information stuff for USAID. Their new (USAID, not my company) seal is a circle with a big "USAID" and then underneath or so, it says "From the American People". That strikes me as a bit boastful and not in the best of taste. Clearly it's from the US -- that's in the title, but must we reiterate it and toot our own horns? There's probably a slightly more elegant way of saying that last part. Oh, right. Be sure to beware the Ides of March. Also, be sure to check out Katie and Erik's new website at, www.geocities.com/ktnerik/ detailing their exciting experiences in South Africa. Speaking of exciting experiences and uncivilized places, I'm planning to move to England in July. It was looking like it was going to be a six-month trip, but it might end up being up to a year, depending on how quickly Graham and I tire of each other. We're still figuring out the employment situation. It's annoying. This week is St. Patrick's Day, though I'm not yet sure what amazingly fun event I will be attending. Last week was Kiffie and Fritz's iPod dj night at Cafe St.-Ex. Kelly and I had a really good time there, despite the fact that as soon as I mentioned having a boyfriend, the other boys ran away. German TV came and taped some stuff. I tried to give a lecture on the Moses by Michelangelo, but was rudely interrupted by some Philistine and so the masses went away, unenlightened. That is all for now. February 16, Silver Spring Not much going on these days. Today is the last day of the Ofoto sale, so I'm getting copies of my pictures from Angkor Wat and will hopefully make an album, soon. Now, I must go do stuff. |
