Largest of the cat species in Africa and the only species living in a pride.   Prides can be very large up to 25 animals depending on the amount of food available.   Lions mate throughout the year.  A pride has its territory marked by the male with a spray of urine and will defend it from strange lions.  The roar of the lion is also a signal to strange lions to stay away.

They mate throughout the year and between 1 to 6 cubs are born with an average of three.

They are opportunistic hunters and would even catch baby elephants and baby rhinoceros.  The females are the primary hunters and they hunt together.

Lions are notorious killers.  Lions would without hesitation kill the young of cheetahs and leopards if they find them just for the sake of killing.  There are absolutely no love amongst hyaenas and lions and they would often kill each other whenever the opportunity arise to find one of the other species alone in their territory.
