COMMENTS about the ARTHUR C. CLARKE pages
* Revised 14 March 2001 *

FROM ANDREW J. SHEPPARD aka Andrew Sherwood

Received Nov. 2, 2000:

Which Century are we living in?
What language is "international postal reply coupons"?
Is there not something extremely peculiar about all this?
Please tell me it is not true that this *visionary* employs *servants* to read his *letters* and that these *servants* do not have computers and cannot read e-mail.
I do not want his autograph, I just found that the ancient one had put his finger in to a British Airways advertising campaign, and I thought that put him in the public domain.
I wanted to add my comments, as just another British writer who lives on a different island where people are Buddhists. Believe me, Buddhists in Japan still have a sense of humour, and would appreciate the BA advert. Oh, and we have BIGGER BUDDHAS and bigger reclining Buddhas here than they have in Sri Lanka.
But I do not expect you to relay any of this to Sir Arthur.
Regards --Andrew J. Sheppard, a.ka. Andrew Sherwood

Note from John Sherwood: We don't imply that Sir Arthur doesn't have e-mail. Since we're not in Sir Arthur's employ, we'd rather not become an intermediary between others and Sir Arthur. Sir Arthur does have staff who are well-versed in computers and read his e-mail.

FROM "MOONWATCHER"

Received mid-October 2000:

"I took a look at your [Arthur C. Clarke] site and it is very impressive. I have been uncovering a great deal of information on '2001' as I research 'The Dawn of Man.' I have conducted many interviews and I very much hope I will be able to convey what it was like to work with Stanley at MGM when we made the picture. It was a unique and special time that changed us all.
"I hope to have the memoir finished by Jan 1, 2001. As yet we do not have a publishing date." -- DANIEL RICHTER

I'M IN TAUNTON

Received late September 2000:

"I went to the same school as Arthur C. Clarke, I was there when the film of 2001 came out, he visited the school and set a competition for the best essay explaining the ending, I didn't win! By another twist of fate the retired physics teacher who had taught Arthur C. Clarke returned to teach to cover for a sick teacher so I was taught physics by the same man who taught Arthur C. Clarke, but not to the same effect! I have had a quick look at your web site. Very interesting! I will go back for a more detailed look." -- A.M., Taunton, Somerset, England
