The Third Station 11 x 14 Oil on Canvas by S. Moar

The Third Station

I painted The Third Station in Dec. 1995, just one week before seeing the show for a second time. I was looking forward to meeting Ted again, and viewing the artwork with him at the Capitol Theatre. It was close to Christmas and I kept thinking how it must have felt for him to portray Jesus in the movie that was filmed in Israel, and how it might have affected him. I had seen a beautiful photo in a book of a statue that marks the Third Station in the Holy Land, and after seeing a television special on the artist Michelangelo, I was interested in trying to capture the look of stone with oil paint. These two ideas combined to create the painting, The Third Station.
