| In December of 1992, a tour of Jesus Christ Superstar starring original
cast members Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson went on the road to celebrate
the twentieth anniversary of the movie's 1973 release. This production
was met with overwhelming response by fans everywhere. In May 1993, Ted
and Carl appeared on The Tonight Show, and it was Ted's heartfelt rendition
of Gethsemane that inspired me to begin working on this series.
JCS came to Saint John, New Brunswick in June of 1995, and we went to see the Saturday evening performance with our relatives. We went out for supper before the show, and by some strange twist of fate, Ted Neeley ended up at the table next to ours. It was a great honour to meet him, and share the photos I had of my artwork with him. Ted is a warm and generous person, and meeting him in person really added to the joy of seeing JCS live at the theatre. Six months later the show returned to our area, and this time my artwork was displayed in the lobby of the Capitol Theatre in Moncton, NB. There were seven paintings in the series at this time, and it was a big thrill to view them with Ted, and hear stories of his time spent making the movie. Ted enjoyed meeting with his fans after every show, and he was so honoured that the movie he was part of, still touched the hearts of so many people. The tour lasted until Jan. 19, 1997, and ended in Philadelphia. S. Moar All artwork within this site is copyright Susan Moar © Copyright 98 and cannot be copied or used in any way. |
