I would like to take this opportunity
to let you know how I feel about
our Vietnam Vets, POW's and MIA's. First of all, I am a
Secretary for a Non-Profit Organization
called M.A.C.S., Inc. (Military And Civilian Society) and we
do what we can, as a small organization, to help not only the
military and ex-military but also the civilians in our
country. We want the civilians to understand what our
brave military men and woman do for us. But we also want
to help anyone who is in need. One of our projects was
bringing the Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall to our town of St.
Marys, Georgia. It took a lot of work and a lot of bake
sales and donations. But we finally were able to have it
here October 25th through
October 30th, 2000. It was quite a project, but it was SO
WORTH it! We feel like it helped to bring our community
together in understanding the loss our country had and the
impact it made on us as a whole.
I feel very strongly about this
subject. I don't believe that our "Government" is doing ENOUGH
to bring OUR MEN home! We know that there are still some in
POW camps. And they have been there WAY TO LONG! And I find it
HIGHLY offensive that in AMERICA this can happen!

We should all work as
hard as we can and write our Senator's, Governor's,
Congressmen and our Representatives. Demand that they do
MORE to bring our soldier's home. And ask them WHY we
are not doing MORE for our Military Members who are out there
day in and day out helping to keep OUR country safe. Why
do they have to be without the necessities when we are
providing them to the non-combatants. This is just wrong
in my book! Why
are our veteran's on the streets like stray dogs? With
no food or shelter? They did what their country asked
them to do. They did it when they were asked. They
did it where they were asked. Yet we don't do anything
for them! These men and women should be the FIRST ones
to receive welfare, food stamps or whatever it takes.
Not the people who already have jobs. Now, I am not
saying to take it away from those who need it. I, at one
time, was a single mother with 2 children, working 2 part time
jobs and 1 full time job at the same time, and I needed a
little help. I received them for about 3 months.
So I in no way am saying that we shouldn't give to those folks
who need a little helping hand. But those folks on it
for years and years. Help them get training and with
getting a job. Why can't we do that for our homeless
veterans? They say they can't give them welfare or food
stamps without an address! Well, hello!! Without a
job, how do you expect them to have a home? Without food
and clothing, how do you expect them to have a job?
These are the things that I see wrong. I know that this
argument has been going on for years. Well, I say it's
time to stop TALKING about it and DO something about it. |
