Epithelial ovarian cancer (carcinoma) shows several different histological types, including serous, mucinous, papillary, endometrioid, and clear cell carcinomas. In cases with a prominent papillary component, the differential diagnosis with papillary serous carcinoma of the peritoneal surface (PSPS) should be carefully made. The presence of many psammoma bodies should favor ovarian origin. In the present case histology was of a typical serous carcinoma. Cytology revealed many 3-dimensional clusters of large malignant cells, with prominant clear vacuoles, and large anaplastic cells.
