Adenoid cystic carcinoma: FNA Left parotid mass, 62-year old male
|
Adenoid cystic carcinoma: cytologically, it has a characteristic cellular population: small basaloid epithelial cells (with high nuclear/cytoplasmic ratio) surrounding nearly spherical cystic areas, filled with basement membrane hyaline material. In the differential dignosis one should consider the so-called basal cel adenomas. In this latter tumor, the basement membrane material is much scarce.
Histology in our case showed the characteristic cribriform pattern, with the cystic spaces filled with hyaline homogeneous material.
