Cytology features: very cellular smears, with numerous lymphoid cells, some quite immature looking, some plasma cells. Numerous dendritic cells, with tingible bodies in their cytoplasm. Not illustrated, there were groups of Hurthle cells, and some colloid. The patient has high titers of anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) antibodies. Due to symptoms of hypothyroidism she was put on hormone replacement therapy. |
