The smears show filariform larvae of Strongyloides stercoralis.The sputum also contained many eosinophils. After eradication of the parasite, the patient no longer had wheezing episodes. In endemic areas, like Brazil, fecal sampling for S. stercoralis is mandatory before immune suppressive therapies, because the risk of hyperinfection.
