Lung and pleural infiltration by "Flower cells": probable leukemia/lymphoma (ATTL)
Drs. Prolla and Diehl's
INTERESTING CASE OF THE MONTH February 2003 case A
Imprint cytology: the M-G-G stained smears show a great number of blast cells with "flower cell" morphology(with multilobulated nuclei, like flower petals). Some other atypical lymphoid cells had a Sezary-like morphology. The cells were pan-B negative, CD4 + and pan-T positive, on immunocytochemistry. The patient's serum was HIV, and HTLV-1/2 negative. No skin lesions were detected. Her pulmonary condition deteriorated rapidly, and she died in pulmonary insufficiency.
