This is me at my Cytopathology and Image Analysis Lab in the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre, Brazil ( picture taken in November 13, 2000). I am smiling because of Laura's ( my first grand daughter!), and Helena's (my second grand daughter), and Gustavo's birth, my first grandson (Laura's brother), and Lucas´ my second grandson (Helena's brother) .
My main cytopathologist assistant is Dr. Ada R. S. Diehl, whose skillful help I gratefully acknowledge. Many of my Case-of-the-month cases were originally seen and prepared by her.

This is me and Volker Schneider in Amsterdam, last May 2001, during a boat trip, XIV International Congress of Cytology.

My main research interests are the diagnosis of esophageal cancer by cytology, and molecular biology of Hereditary Non Polypoid Colon Cancer (HNPCC). I am involved in the use of a modified Chinese cytology balloon in Taquara, RS - a community near Porto Alegre,RS Brazil, where we are doing a screening program.

But I have published some papers on other subjects, mostly GI endoscopy and cytology.
