Where Have you gone, BLT??
Degrassi High will go down in history as the greatest high school drama (second only to Welcome Back Kotter) for its realistic portrayal of life in the shitty Toronto area. But throughout it's tenure during the 1980s and early 90s the character most overlooked was Bryant "BLT" Thomas played by Tony Award-winning actor Ade Deyo.  Why you ask? Well, let's face it - the rest of the castmembers were assholes. In particular, they were jealous of his flattop haircut. Could they grow such a cool "do"?  No. Neil "Wheels" Hope once threatened to quit unless his mullet was guarenteed more screen time than BLT's flattop.   Tempers flared when  BLT started scorin with more chicks than fellow castmembers Pat Mastroianni (Joey Jeremiah) and Stefan "Snake" Brognan combined.  Eventually rumors of Ade Deyo's cock fighting addiction forced him to leave the show in 1989. Conspiracy against BLT?  You betcha!  But when you make enemies with producers and castmembers, then you truly are "Playing With Time".
In group photos, you'll notice that there is a concerted effort to keep BLT in the background or hidden from the public. Token Asian castmember Siluck "Yick Yu" Saysanasay always felt threatened that BLT might take away from his own "uniqueness".
Thanks to the "Wheels-mullet contract", BLT was demoted to secondary character status and forced into retarded character plots that alway ended in a pathetic manner.
Here he is as the cool urban athelete. How more typecast could he get?  Did he complain? No!! Why!!?? Because he was THAT damn good.
Few people are aware that Ade Deyo was Bill Cosby's original choice for "Theo Huxtable" But thanks the lobbying efforts of Felicia Rashad's husband Ahmad "Real TV" Rashad, Malcolm Jamal Warner was given the role.  To this day Ade curses Ahmad and will one day extract his revenge.
