Who is Jim Cimino?

That's a good question...I'm glad you asked that question...next question? Boy, would I make a great politician or what? Well actually I'm a school teacher (the same thing, only we get paid less). I have been teaching automotive mechanics at Susquehanna County Area Vocational Technical School for almost twelve years. I am also an ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician. I know that you thought I was just a computer genius, but what little I do know about computers is self-taught. I am also a CFII (certified flight instructor instrument airplane). I first soloed in 1975. I was very young. Just to prove how well rounded I am, I also am an Emergency Medical Technician with the Moscow Vol. Fire Company.

I have had three drag racing cars in the past, the last one being a 1967 camaro ss/rs, with a 350 cid engine that ran 10 secs. in the quarter mile. For you people that can not understand that, it means the car went from 0 to 130 mph in 10 seconds. I have always been interested in foreign sports cars and currently own a 1973 Alfa Romeo Spider that has close to two hundred horsepower. Although I have a deep interest in automobiles, my real love is aviation. I started flying and soloed at age 16, working odd jobs to pay for my lessons. When I went for my flght physical before my solo I was issued a third class medical with a waiver because of no sight in my right eye due to an earlier accident. The physician told me that I would never be able to obtain any other class of medical which would mean that a career in aviation was out of the question. So I gave up flying. About eight years ago, I was on a bbs talking to some pilots and they told me that the physician was mistaken. I went and had a new physical, and just two medical check rides later I now have a first class medical. This gives me the oportunity to fly for compensation, although a career in aviation is out of the question now, I can still flight instruct. I am a member of the Volunteer Pilots Association, which flies transplant patients and organs for transplant.

I used to own a 1979 Cessna 172N which I had to sell when I built my house ( see, I told you I made less than a politician). I did however take two weeks a few summers ago and fly my Cessna from Pennsylvania to California and spent some time with other pilots along the way. It was a great trip, but I do recommend taking a little faster aircraft. Don't go too fast or you'll miss all the beauty. I borrowed another pilot's Cessna T210 to go from Boulder CO. to Leadville CO. because of the 9970 feet altitude.

I really miss owning my own airplane and that is why I am going to start construction of my RV. I have access to the regular training aircraft and want something a little more exciting to fly on the weekends. Being the "mechanical type" I like the all metal construction of the RV along with the use of proven powerplants. I also like the tandem seating of the RV-4, and the RV-8 has more of what I want.
