Leadership by Rudolph Giuliani. He was named TIME Person of the Year in 2001 in wake of the September 11 attacks. The book focuses on how Rudy applies leadership to all he does. From his personal life, life as a trial lawyer, to his life prior to being the mayor of New York City, to his life after his duty to New York is done. In the book Rudy describes how he felt he had much to learn about leadership going into 2001, his final year as the mayor. He talks about how going into his first year as the mayor in 1994 he focused on lowering the homicide rate. Through his leadership from 1994-2001 the rate decreased 67%. Going into his duty as the mayor Rudy felt that the city would only change through leadership, and that to change the city you must start from the top down. However he knew leadership did not simply happen. It was taught, learned and developed. He felt that he could lead in many ways as well, through speeches or through examples. Rudy went into the office of mayor looking at the numerous people who have displayed leadership in there lives. He knew he had much to learn and he was willing to learn in order to make the city better. Rudy best displayed his leadership, as many know, on September 11, he was calm under the pressure, while many were panicking Rudy was the calm in the storm, here he displayed ultimate leadership. Rudy states that instead of panicking he had the attitude of concern, because when you panic you end up limiting what you can do and in a time of crisis it is important to be able the function, especially when you are the leader of the largest city in the world. Leadership is the ultimate character trait and Rudy displayed in exceptionally on Sept 11 and throughout his life.
