Welcome to the Stone Pet Shelter!

A very special place where you can find some very unique critters! You'll also find some unique flower arrangements, cute cottages and rock dolls!

Some of the critters were once homeless but now, happily have found a home of their own. Others have been special requests made by pet owners, or friends and families of pet owners. One of these pets is pictured here. "O My Midnight Cowboy" is a beautiful pomeranian, who owns and loves his 'mom', Lady Cat. They share a home in Boulder, Colorado. He's also the "poster boy" for my website!

And yes, his picture's the one on the right. The other is a photo of Cowboy's portrait rendered on a simple beach stone. A very unique kind of portrait, it gives a whole new meaning to the term "Pet Rock"! (To learn a little more about Cowboy and Lady Cat, be sure to check out the Dog Portrait section below!)

The Stone Pet Shelter Story

I used to be one of those people - the kind that suffer from artist envy! My friends were so talented - knitting sweaters, creating incredible mosaics or paintings or quilts. I tried those things and more, but the results were pretty embarassing! I thought I was destined to be creatively frustrated forever.

Then about 2 years ago, I discovered a book that "changed my inner artist's life!" It was called "Painting Animals On Rocks" by Lin Welford. "What the heck?", I thought. "I'll give it a try. "At least I can paint over my mistakes!"

Well, I was stunned. My first attempts were actually....O.K.! And, I liked it! Finally a craft I could actually have fun with while I improved my technique. But the best part of all is that it turned into something I could share with others. Soon, people were requesting portraits of their own pets (or their friend's, like Cowboy!) or simply adopting the animals that were "available" here at the time. And later, I was honored to be asked to donate my work to several animal organizations for their fundraising efforts. Well, now I've put some of my work up here online, to share with you. These are just a few of my paintings, and there'll be more to come, so I hope you'll visit often! I'm also working on the area which'll show you which animals are available for adoption NOW! And as I donate a percentage of my "adoption fee" to several animal organizations, I'll be adding links to those too!

I know there must be other "frustrated artists" out there and a lot of animal lovers too. So if you'd like more information on getting started painting your own rocks, or are interested in "adopting" one from the shelter, please email me! And thanks for stopping by!
