The Trip to Syria
These are the Greek ruins of Apamea. Apamea was built in the third century BC by one of Alexander the Greats generals and named after his wife. It is very similar to Palmyra in layout and extent, but is constructed of gray granite in the middle of fields of green wheat as opposed to Palmyras pink sandstone in the desert.
This is Krak des Chevaliers, a Crusader castle near the Lebanese border, which T.E. Lawrence called the finest castle in the world.
