AFFIDAVIT
18 June 1917
In the Supreme Court of New Zealand Northern District.
In the Matter of the Estate of Margaret Glass late of Devonport
in the said district
married woman deceased.
INTESTATE
I William Campbell Glass of Hikurangi in the said district
Baker make oath and say as follows:-
- 1. That I knew Margaret Glass of Devonport now deceased when alive
and that the said Margaret Glass was resident or was domicile at
Russell Street Devonport aforsaid within the said district and that
the nearest registry office of the Court to the place where the
said Margaret Glass was domicile is at Auckland.
- 2. That the said Margaret Glass died at Russell Street Devonport aforsaid
on or about the 13th day of April 1917 as i am informed and verily
believe; being present at her funeral
- 3. That the said deceased was my mother and that the said deceased
left her surviving my father John Glass her lawfull widower since deceased,
this deponent her eldest son aged 45 years,
A daughter Marion Cameron Paget
formerly marion cameron Glass now the wife of Lionel Paget of
Sydney New South Wales, Commercial traveller aged about 43 years and
a son Alfred Duncan Glass aged about 41 years.
- 4. That a fourth child of the said deceased Euphemia Low ( formerly Glass)
predeceased the said deceased and left 5 children surviving both the
said Margaret Low and the said deceased namely
(1) Avoh (2) May (3) Clive (4) Maxse and (5) Ora Jean, all of such children
being under eleven years old.
- 5. That I believe the said deceased had never been married prior to
her marriage to my father the said John Glass now deceased.
- 6. That since the death of the said deceased I have had access to
her papers and repositories and that i have searched diligently therein
for any WILL or Testamentry writing made or signed by the said deceased
and that I have been unable to find any such WILL or Testamentry writing.
- 7. That I havw made enquiries of the solicitor who acted for the said deceased
during her life time and of any Bankers with whom she banked and of all
pearsons likely to know of the said deceased having made or signed any WILL or
Testamentry writing.
- 8. That I do verily believe that the said deceased died intestate
and that I am her eldest son.
- 9. That my said father John Glass as Widower of the said deceased applied
for the grant of Letters of Administration of her Estate and made an Affidavit
on the seventeenth day of May 1917 in support of such application,
which Affidavit was duly filed in the office of this Honorable Court at
Auckland and Letters of Administration were granted to the said John Glass
but that the said John Glass died on or about the thirteenth day of May 1917
before such Letters of Administration were sealed or Issued.
- 10. That the said Marion Cameron Paget is at present in England I believe
and the said Alfred Duncan Glass is at present out of New Zealand
in parts unknown.
and that I am the only next of Kin of the said deceased of full age and
at present within the juristriction of this Honorable Court.
- 11. That to the best of my knowledge information and believe the effects
and credits of the said deceased to be administered by me are under
the value of £600.
- 12. That I will exhibit unto this court a true full and perfect inventory
of all the estate effects and credits of the vsaid deceased within Three Calander months
of the Grant of Letters of Administration to me and that I will file a true account
of my administratorship within twelve calender months of the Grant of
such Letters of Admintration.
- 13. That I am the above named deponent was born at Roxburgh, Otago in the
Dominion of New Zealand and am of British Nationality.
- 14. That the above named deceased was born at Parnell near Auckland
aforesaid and was of British Nationality.
- 15. That in addition to her natural lawfull children the said deceased
left an adopted son Douglas Glass now aged 16 years who was lawfully adopted
by the said deceased and the above named John Glass Jointly.
