"While home the new champion gave out many more sidelights on the fight with Nelson. Throughout the battle Wolgast kept tantalizing the Dane. Whenever the Battler slowed up Wolgast remarked: "Come on, don't you hear them yelling? They expect a champion to fight." At the end of one round Wolgast took hold of the dazed Nelson and showed him the way to his corner. "But I got nervous at the finish and wanted to go in and finish Bat. Jones cautioned me to take it easy, that I had the fight won hands down. When it was over Referee Eddie Smith told Jones he was afraid to,let me take another crack at Nelson, for he believed that striking the canvas would have proved fatal in Nelson. Had Jones let me go, I would suely have knocked Nelson cold. But what was the use? At the finish the Dane was the worst beaten man the prize ring ever saw."
