“I will engage in two more ring contests, the one with Memsic and the other with Hogan in New York," the lightweight champion continued, "I will get more than $4,000 for the Memsic bout and at least $6,000 for the Hogan affair. I made $11,000 out of the two bouts with Brown and I saved much of the money I earned before I beat Nelson, I am well fixed financially. I might go on boxing all comers and gathering double the amount I have now, but I am satisfied to retire without losing my title in the ring.”
