![]() April 1, 1911 | "'I'll let Nelson put a horseshoe in each of his gloves and I will bet him $2,500 that he can't knock me out.' These are the words with which Ad Wolgast answered Nelson's recent talk when the little wildcat together with Tom Jones, his manager and young Doughtery his sparring partner, arrived in San Francisco. 'He's not going to have any Jimmy Britt or Dick Hyland in front of him on Feb. 22. I will be in front of him and any time I whale away at him he is not going to brush my blows aside. They tell me that Nelson is a rough party, but I did not find him so rough when we met in Los Angeles.' Besides punching him all around the ring, I threw him around like a doll when he started to rough me."February 17, 1910 |
