Memsic landed heavily on the body with the right. Wolgast missed with the left for the face and ripped the right into the stomach. They traded blows, Memsic getting to the midsection with the right. They broke and mixed it again, each man sending hard rights into the ribs. Memsic got in a right uppercut. Memsic covered up. Memsic caught Wolgast a heavy right on the jaw. They clinched and Wolgasts knee sagged. Memsic wrestled him to the floor and Wolgast straightened out on his back for a few seconds. The crowd cheered wildly because Wolgast was dazed toward him and the gong sounded. ROUND 2-- Memsic shot in a left over Wolgasts guard. They clinched and each tried to use a free arm. Memsic wrestled Wolgast away from him. They closed in again, Wolgast covering his face until they came to a clinch. Wolgast used the right reaching Memsics face several times with short uppercuts. Memsic missed a couple of times with right chops, but shot in a straight left on the nose. Memsic came out of the clinch with his nose bleeding. Wolgast snapped a right on the ear and Memsic jolted him on the mouth with the left. Memsic got in a left hook on the face and a hard right on the ribs. Memsic sent Wolgasts head back twice with straight lefts. Memsic backed away and Wolgast drove a right hand into the stomach. Wolgast swung a right on the ribs and Memsic caught him with a right swing on the jaw, sending him to the ropes. They were smashing each other freely with lefts and rights at the bell. ROUND 3-- Wolgast caught a right on his glove. Memsic poked in two left facers. They clinched and Memsic hammered Wolgasts side. Wolgast sent in a left on the face and took a right chop on the jaw in return. They closed in to a clinch and Wolgast covered up and they had a scuffling match at close quarters. In one mix up their heads bumped together with a cracking sound. Wolgast got home with a right chop on the jaw. Memsic put over a hard swing on the ear. Memsic shot in a straight left on the mouth and Wolgast came back with a left jolt on the jaw. They mixed it freely in the center of the ring. Memsic getting in the more telling blows. ROUND 4-- Wolgast blocked two lefts and Memsic nailed him with left and right on the side of the head in return. They clinched. They mixed at close quarters and Wolgast was shaken up by a hard right in the hollow of the neck. They leaned together and fought in a clinch. Wolgast reached a couple of lefts and a hard right took him on the neck knocking him aside a pace or two. They had a fierce rally which carried them along the ropes and Memsic hit cleaner than his opponent. At times their foreheads were together while they were punching. Wolgast stood away and Memsic swung with both hands at the head. Wolgast blocked the blows, but took a solid right in the pit of his stomach. ROUND 5--Wolgast went in covered up. Memsics blows glanced off the champions guard. Memsic got in one good right on the stomach. Then they went in for the hardest rally of the fight, right over against the ropes. Each man got home with telling uppercuts on the face and body. In a mix up which lasted fully a half minute they broke away and went to midring where they began all over again. It was all aggressive work on both sides and hard punches were given and taken. Wolgast finally covered up for a while and allowed Memsic to hammer at his guard. The champion loosened up again and they exchanged uppercuts, both scoring freely. Wolgast got in the final punch of the round, a hard right on the stomach. ROUND 6-- When Wolgast dropped his guard a little Memsic dealt him some hard lefts and rights around the midsection and repeated the punch a few seconds later. Wolgast blocked Memsics assault on the stomach and put in a light uppercut. The champion was holding himself together now and ramming in blows that counted. Wolgast smothered a few uppercuts and cut loose again showering short jolts on Memsics face. Memsic seemed to be slowing down. He did not lash out as often and his face showed the effects of Wolgasts fierce jolts. Memsic swung a hard right on the ribs as the round closed. About ninety per cent of the credits were Wolgasts in this round. ROUND 7-- Wolgast pressed in with a Memsics hooks and swings. When they drew close Memsic reached the face with the left and Wolgast placed a hard right on the ribs. They mixed it freely in Memsics corner and Wolgasts rapid punching forced Memsic to go to cover. Wolgast, after the rally, took two straight lefts from his opponent and closed in again, cutting loose with both hands on the body and ripping in an occasional uppercut on the face. Memsic swung savagely, but Wolgast was well covered. There was another fierce mix up in which Wolgast got in far the greater number of blows. Memsic sent Wolgast back a step with a straight left, bringing a cheer from the crowd. Then they mixed it and both landed frequently. Wolgast had the better of the exchange. ROUND 8-- They went into a clinch and Wolgast pounded the kidneys with the right. They broke and Memsic reached the face with the right. Another clinch and another hard kidney right from Wolgast. Then they stood close and began rooting by mutual consent. Memsic got in the better smashes in the shape of lefts and rights on the stomach. Memsic at one time butted Wolgast and a murmur arose from the crowd. Wolgasts best effort now was a short right uppercut and the closer he got the better able was he to work it. He pressed Memsic to the ropes and employed the uppercut with telling effect. Memsic drew away and made full range swings with both hands at the body. He reached the mark, but with diminished punching power. Memsic had Wolgast pressed against the ropes when the gong sounded. ROUND 9-- Wolgast got in a short left clinched. After they broke Wolgast sent home left after left on the face. Memsic staggered back, his legs beginning to give way. He dropped his arms and just as Wolgast rushed after him, presumably to deliver a right hander. Referee Eyton stopped the fight. They took Memsic to his comer and there was no demur at the action for a knockout seemed imminent.
