| Remember when we had a real president? |
| Much has been written about Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States. This page simply reflects what I recall led to his greatness. I recall when he was elected to office. The country, and the world, were facing: * A severe recession * An ever increasing Federal Government * Continued expansion of the Soviet Union President Reagan dealt with these issues in the following ways: * He passed the largest tax cut in American History. And, it worked. The United States underwent the largest peacetime expansion in history. It went for 20 years, even though Bill Clinton tried to take credit for the time period of 1990 to 2000. But when Clinton left office, he left his successor, President George W. Bush. with a major recession to deal with. The main successes Clinton had in economic prosperity were directly due to the Republicans gaining control of the congress and limiting the vast increases in spending that the Democrats wish for. And, of course, the Reagan tax cut. * The curtailment of government spending. Ronald Reagan had to contend with the Democrats being in control both houses of congress for most of his terms, and they spent like, well, liberal Democrats. In spite of this, and with perserverance, he was able to slowly gain control such that Ronald Reagan's last two budgets had defecits less than Bill Clinton's first two budgets (a fact the dominant liberal media has chosen to ignore to this very day) * With the so-called arm's race, and with "star wars" President Reagan pushed the Soviet economy virtually to bankruptcy. This directly led to the demise of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. This event has been catagorized as an event of biblical proportions. I agree. |
